Direct Shops of Traditional Tea Merchants in Uji

Marukyu Koyamaen Nishinotoin Store(Kyoto)

Located in the Karasuma-Oike area at the heart of Kyoto’s city center, Marukyu Koyamaen Nishinotoin Store is a specialized Japanese tea shop. This directly managed store belongs to Marukyu Koyamaen, a time-honored tea producer from Uji, Kyoto, boasting a 300-year history.
Housed within a renovated traditional Kyoto machiya, the shop features the Japanese tea cafe Sabo Motoan as an annex. Amidst a tranquil atmosphere, visitors can enjoy their tea time while gazing at the courtyard garden.

The cafe menu offers a selection of representative tea from Marukyu Koyamaen, including matcha, gyokuro, and sencha, alongside traditional Japanese sweets as part of a set. At Sabo Motoan, matcha-infused sweets also enjoy popularity. A highlight is the store-exclusive Matcha Roll Cake, where matcha is incorporated into both the sponge cake and cream, resulting in a concentrated matcha flavor.

This shop is equipped with an authentic tea ceremony room. You can enjoy tea time in this luxurious space.

They sell a variety of tea and matcha sweets developed by Marukyu Koyamaen.
