Japanese tea and washi specialty store

Odawara Ejima(Odawara, Kanagawa)

Odawara Ejima is a specialized store for Japanese tea and Japanese paper (washi) located in Odawara City, Kanagawa Prefecture. It’s a longstanding establishment that celebrated its 360th anniversary in 2021. The charming building, constructed in 1928, features dignified and traditional architecture that embodies the passage of time.

Their selection of Japanese tea includes primarily deep-steamed tea from Kakegawa, Shizuoka, as well as local tea like Ashigara-cha. The tea is known for its rich sweetness which is characteristic of deep-steamed tea. In 2021, to commemorate their 360th anniversary, they introduced an original blended sencha called “Hei Hachi.” This blend combines three distinct varieties: Yabukita, Saemidori, and Asatsuyu.

They also offer a range of washi(Japanese paper) products, a craft they have been involved in since the Edo period (early 17th to mid-19th century). Their selection includes handcrafted washi from places like Mino and Kurotani, along with unique artisanal washi creations.

In addition, their store carries various items such as teapots, nori (seaweed), traditional ceremonial items, and decorative envelopes.
