Japanese tea store specializing in Honyama tea

Kojima Chaten(Shizuoka)

Kojima Chaten is a Japanese tea specialty shop established during the Meiji period, located in Shizuoka City. The shop primarily sells Honyama Tea, which comes from the Abe River and Warashina River areas flowing through the city.

The tea is carefully blended by skilled tea artisans to bring out the unique aromas and flavors of different tea leaves from various regions. It is then meticulously roasted through a process known as “hiire” or firing.

Among their numerous offerings, a standout recommendation is the sencha “Tensui”. This signature product was created by the tea artisans of Kojima Chaten, who hold the highest rank of “Jyu-dan(10th grade )” in the “National Tea Judging Technique Competition.” This competition assesses the ability to evaluate teas, with tea artisans from across the country participating annually. “Tensui” is a blend of Honyama Tea with leaves from Shizuoka’s Makinohara region. It offers a well-balanced harmony of sweetness and astringency, delivering a deep and layered flavor profile.

Furthermore, they also sell tea from specific regions such as Ashikubo, Umegashima, and Warashina, all of which are the sources of Honyama Tea. With products available in small 10g sizes, you can enjoy tasting and comparing the origin of Honyama Tea.

Honyama Tea is known to have been favored by Tokugawa Ieyasu. Kojima Chaten offers the opportunity to savor the essence of this venerable renowned tea. The shop actively shares information through Instagram and YouTube, so be sure to check them out.
