TEA FACTORY Joshun-en in Odawara City, Kanagawa Prefecture, is a tea cafe with an attached black tea factory. The cafe is located in a charming 90-year-old building that was renovated and opened in 2020.
Joshun-en has its own tea plantation in Odawara, where it cultivates tea without the use of pesticides or chemical fertilizers. They produce their own black tea and offer it under the brand name “Koyurugi Black Tea.”
The owner, Tomoya Ogura, has visited tea-producing regions around the world, including India and Sri Lanka, and gained insights into various aspects of black tea production. At Joshun-en, he applies the experience and knowledge he gained from those visits to the tea-making process.
Inside the cafe, you can enjoy the carefully crafted “Koyurugi Black Tea” and other tea prepared by Ogura.
The cafe also recommends South Indian spice curries. They offer a variety of curries for lunch, including Odawara Fish Curry and Bean Curry.
They sell loose tea leaves and tea bags of both black and green tea products in-store.
Joshu-en focuses on proposing ways to enjoy tea through experiences. During the tea harvesting season, they organize events such as tea-picking experiences on their own plantation and black tea-making workshops within the cafe.
