Enjoying tea beyond borders and genres

Sagyo(Yugawara, Kanagawa)

Known as a hot spring town with a rich history, Yugawara in Kanagawa Prefecture is surrounded by abundant nature. Nestled in this town is the tea stand Sagyo, located about a 4-minute walk from JR Yugawara Station.

The tea stand is operated by two individuals with a special passion for tea: Mr. Shimoeda, a certified Chinese tea appraiser recognized by the Chinese government, and Mr. Sakashita, from the Kanesa-en tea plantation in Shizuoka. With a desire to spread the deliciousness and fascination of tea, they opened Sagyo in 2018.

The concept of Sagyo is to “enjoy tea without borders, transcending nationalities, genres, and rituals.” Crossing country boundaries, they offer a diverse range of tea from Japan, Taiwan, and China.
For Japanese tea, they have a lineup that includes the representative variety “Yabukita” and the flavorful “Yamakai” sencha. Taiwanese tea focuses on aromatic oolong tea like “Alishan High Mountain Tea” and  Dongfang meiren.” Chinese tea includes Pu-erh tea, among others.

At Sagyo, in addition to green tea and oolong tea, their menu of flavored tea is also captivating. Their most popular menu item is the “Tropical Oolong,” which incorporates a luxurious blend of 7 fruits such as passion fruit and pineapple. Based on the oolong tea “Dong Ding Si Ji Chun,” it offers a harmonious blend of floral oolong aroma and the sweetness and acidity of the fruits.

Furthermore, you can also enjoy unique flavored tea such as the “Cheese Cream Jasmine” and “Jelly-Infused Tie Guan Yin.” When strolling through Yugawara, be sure to stop by and experience the offerings of Sagyo.
