Cafe where you can enjoy Sonogi Tea

Nishiogi San-ji(Nishiogi, Tokyo)

Nishiogi San-ji(San-ji means 3 o’clock)is a tea cafe located in Nishiogikubo, Tokyo. It’s a place where you can enjoy tea and Japanese sweets that are perfect for your 3 o’clock snack.

Housed in a two-story retrofitted house, the interior exudes a nostalgic atmosphere.

Focus on Sonogi tea in Nagasaki

For tea, the owner, hailing from Nagasaki Prefecture, recommends Sonogi Tea. This tea is produced in the town of Higashisonogi in Nagasaki Prefecture and is known for its tea leaves resembling small marbles.

At  Nishiogi 3-ji, a collaboration with the Forties brand, established by young tea farmers from Higashisonogi, showcases drinks and sweets made using Sonogi Tea.

Japanese sweets using popular gelato

A recommended choice is the “Iced Matcha,” made using the finest Sonogi Matcha produced by Forties. Its gentle sweetness and rich aroma make it a captivating drink. Enjoy it together with “Wami-gellato,” a gelato made with regional ingredients from across Japan, such as Izu’s salted milk.

“Sonogi Matcha Affogato” is another popular option, allowing you to choose from a selection of 10 gelato flavors like burnt caramel and roasted green tea, and topping it with Sonogi Matcha. It’s generously adorned with white rice cakes, sweet potato syrup, and red bean paste.

Additionally, they offer seasonally limited parfaits bursting with fruits, matcha mousse, donut gelato, and other unique Japanese sweets. You can savor these distinct creations alongside the aromatic Sonogi Tea.

Selling Nagasaki’s local products

Within the cafe, you can purchase the Forties marble green tea and matcha that they use in their menu.

They also offer items such as ceramics from Hasami Town in Nagasaki, known for Hasami ware, and bath salts made from the seawater of Goto-nada. These products provide a window into Nagasaki’s charm.

As Tokyo’s only tea café specializing in Sonogi Tea, Nishiogi 3-ji is a must-visit spot during your exploration of Nishiogikubo.
