Located on the 4th floor of GINZA SIX in Tokyo’s Ginza district is the Nakamura Tokichi Honten Ginza Store. This Japanese tea cafe was opened in 2017 by the well-established Nakamura Tokichi Honten, which was founded in 1854 in Uji, Kyoto.
Store interior inspired by the main store in Uji
The original store in Uji is housed in an elegant historic building and has been designated as an important cultural landscape in Uji. The interior design of the Ginza store draws inspiration from the original while incorporating urban elements characteristic of Ginza. With an open and inviting space, you can enjoy a pleasant tea time here.
As a welcome drink, the store provides seasonal tea such as sencha and hojicha for free. You can enjoy this tea alongside sweets and meals, many of which incorporate Uji matcha.
The delicious taste of matcha menu
A highly recommended sweet is the Ginza store’s exclusive “Bessei Maruto Parfait.” This delicacy features the finest tencha leaves, which are the raw material for hand-picked matcha. It offers the delicate sweetness, refined flavor, and rich aroma characteristic of high-quality matcha. The parfait includes matcha ice cream, chiffon cake, the popular “Nama-cha Jelly,” matcha anko (sweet red bean paste), and a rich matcha sauce, creating a harmonious blend of various ingredients.
Apart from parfaits, other recommended options include the “Cha Goromo,” where special matcha anko and warm kuzumochi are combined with rich matcha, as well as the flavorful “Cha Soba” (tea soba).
Tea gifts and sweets sold in store
The store also has a well-stocked retail corner offering a variety of tea and confections perfect for gifting. One notable tea is the Nakamura Tea, which represents Nakamura Tokichi Honten by blending seven types of tea, including sencha and gyokuro, using their proprietary techniques.
The product packaging boasts an elegant design, suitable for personal use at home as well as for gifting.
One of the popular items, the Nama-cha Jelly, comes in matcha and hojicha flavors, and during the spring’s new tea season, a new tea flavor is introduced. It is accompanied by shiratama (rice flour dumplings) and azuki beans, allowing you to savor the rich aroma and taste of the tea.
Furthermore, the store offers confections such as financiers and gateau chocolat infused with tea.
