Tea shop with a casual atmosphere

Rokkaku Chikiriyaya Chaho(Kyoto)

Rokkaku Chikiriyaya Chaho is a Japanese tea specialty store located in the central part of Kyoto city. It’s situated just a 4-minute walk from Karasuma Oike Subway Station, in an area where offices and restaurants are abundant. The store has a strong connection with the local community and is beloved by the locals. Its casual atmosphere is appealing, making it easy for anyone to stop by.

With a history spanning over 110 years, the store is currently managed by the fourth-generation owner, Mr. Daisuke Wakabayashi.
One of their popular tea is the “Karigane Hojicha.” This tea is made by roasting tea stems, resulting in a fragrant and mellow flavor. They also offer Kyoto-produced sencha, gyokuro, and kukicha (twig tea).

Rokkaku Chikiriyaya Chaho offers a tea brewing experience menu (reservation required). Mr. Wakabayashi guides visitors through the proper way to brew gyokuro, sencha, and bo hojicha.

The second floor is a sweets area where you can leisurely enjoy your tea time.

They serve tea-infused desserts such as matcha parfait. Their recommended “Black Sugar Warabimochi” is a delightful treat featuring a generous amount of matcha, known for its bouncy texture.
