Specialized in Japanese and Taiwanese tea

Chasha Mikoto(Kanazawa, Ishikawa)

Located conveniently close to the charming old streets of Kanazawa’s Kazuemachi Chayagai and along the Asano River, Chasha Mikoto is a tea shop that specializes in both Japanese and Taiwanese teas.

Introducing the appeal of Japanese and Taiwanese tea

The owner, Masatoshi Furuya, worked for a Japanese tea company before moving to Taiwan with his wife, Eriko. Living in Taiwan, they immersed themselves in Taiwanese tea culture and gained extensive knowledge about tea. Upon returning to Japan in 2016, they decided to open Chasha Mikoto in Kanazawa, a city that has nurtured the culture of matcha and Kaga bocha (Roasted stem tea), with the aim of promoting a more relaxed lifestyle through the appreciation of tea.

When choosing teas, Mr. Furuya places great importance on three aspects: the ability to brew multiple infusions from a single batch of tea, a strong aroma, and a well-balanced flavor. He carefully selects teas that also leave a beautiful aftertaste.

Their Japanese tea selection includes over 30 unique tea sourced from producers all over Japan, including Shizuoka, Kyoto, Saitama, Fukuoka, Kumamoto, and Ibaraki. They offer a diverse range of teas, from sencha and black tea to gyokuro(shaded green tea) and kamairi-cha (pan-fired tea). As for Taiwanese teas, they offer more than ten varieties, mainly focusing on oolong and black teas sourced directly from Taiwanese producers and roasters.

Attractive tea tasting service

Chasha Mikoto places great emphasis on the Tasting service, available from 10:00 to 13:00, and the Cafe time, available from 13:00 to 17:00. During the Tasting service, customers can sample three types of tea (Japanese and Taiwanese) for 800 yen.

During the tasting session, Mr. Furuya attentively listens to the customers’ preferences and the situations in which they will enjoy the tea and then suggests the most suitable teas. Customers can savor each tea up to the third infusion and spend 1 to 2 hours finding their ideal tea together with him.
Reservations are required for the Tasting service and can be made by phone or on the shop’s website.

Providing a Moment of Quality Tea Time

As for the tea cafe service, they offer a selection of premium teas such as gyokuro, sencha, and black tea from Japan, and Taiwanese teas like Oriental Beauty tea and Tongding Oolong tea. Customers can enjoy their tea at the counter or in a traditional tatami seating area.
