Long-established Japanese tea store

Tea Shop Kanbayashi(Uji, Kyoto)

Tea Shop Kanbayashi is a renowned Japanese tea specialty store in Kyoto’s Uji region, with a history of over 400 years. Founded by the Kanbayashi Family, tea artisans who once served the Tokugawa Shogunate’s tea needs during the Edo period.

Backed by more than 400 years of history and tradition, the shop offers high-quality Uji tea. They also handle sencha and gyokuro which have been selected as part of Kyoto Prefecture’s Premium Uji Tea certification program. Their flagship sencha is called “Tsurezure,” known for its well-balanced sweetness and astringency, which has gained popularity among many customers.

On the second floor, there’s a cozy tea room where you can leisurely enjoy Uji tea along with seasonal Japanese confections.

The shop also features a tea room where you can participate in activities like grinding tea leaves using a stone mill or experiencing a traditional Japanese tea ceremony. Additionally, there’s an on-site tea processing factory where you can observe the final steps of processing sencha and gyokuro.
