Long-established hojicha specialty store

Isshou(Kanazawa, Ishikawa)

Established in 1863 in Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture, Maru Hachi Seichajou is a company specializing in the production and sale of Japanese tea, with Kaga Bocha as its flagship product. Isshou is a hojicha (roasted green tea) specialty store opened by the same company in 1994.

Hojicha specialty store located in Higashi Chaya-gai

Located at the heart of Higashi Chayagai, one of Kanazawa’s representative tourist spots, Isshou introduces the charm of Maru Hachi Seichajou’s teas with the concept of Fragrance, Taste, Connection.

The store is renovated from a traditional machiya (townhouse) and offers a cozy space for enjoying tea, a gallery, and a co-working area.

Inside the spacious cafe area, both counter and table seats are available, allowing visitors to savor the deliciousness of Maru Hachi Seichajou’s Kaga Bocha at a leisurely pace.

Experience to enjoy the taste and aroma of hojicha

Upon being seated, customers are first served with Maru Hachi Seichajou’s signature product, Kenjo Kaga Bocha, which is cold-brewed hojicha.

The birth of Kenjo Kaga Boucha dates back to 1983 when Emperor Hirohito visited Ishikawa Prefecture for the National Arbor Festival, and Maru Hachi Seichajou presented Kaga Bocha to the Emperor as a gift. It is made by lightly roasting the finest first-picked stems, resulting in a refreshing taste and a fragrant aroma.

The cafe menu includes Kenjo Kaga Bocha, Kaga Hojicha, and Seasonal Hojicha. Before placing an order, customers can experience the aroma of each type of tea by pouring hot water over the tea leaves and then choosing their preferred hojicha flavor.

Hojicha can be enjoyed in a set with seasonal Japanese or Western confectionery of your choice. For those who wish to take home the tea they tasted, the tea leaves are available for purchase as well.

Featured Gallery & Workspace

The gallery space inside the store holds monthly art exhibitions, showcasing and selling works that enrich the lifestyle with tea-related creations, focusing on ceramic artists.

On the second floor of the store, there is a co-working space called Isshou+ (plus). Operating under the concept of “a place where new ideas are born,” this space is available for rental as a workplace.

With a reasonable hourly rate of 500 yen, anyone can use the co-working space, and group reservations are also welcome. Equipped with hojicha, teapots, and mugs, the drink corner allows people to work while enjoying tea in a serene Japanese-style setting.

Maru Hachi Seichajou’s teas can also be purchased at the Maru Hachi Seichajou Kanazawa Hyakubangai Store in Kanazawa Station’s Kanazawa Hyakubangai shopping area. Furthermore, their products are available for purchase on the official online shop. Be sure to check them out.
