Located in Tobu Department Store Ikebukuro in Tokyo, Ginza Fukurokuju Ikebukuro Tobu Store is the third branch of the Ginza Fukurokuju Japanese cafe chain, following the original Ginza store and the Shinagawa Season Terrace branch. Opened in December 2021, the cafe offers high-quality Japanese sweets and Japanese tea.
Limited freshly made warabi-mochi
At the Ikebukuro Tobu Store, they specialize in freshly made warabi-mochi（bracken-starch dumpling）. Using a rare type of hon-warabi flour that can be obtained from only 3-7% of the entire ingredient, they create warabi-mochi with a delightfully chewy texture. Each piece is handcrafted in the shop.
A highly recommended item is the Matcha Soft Warabi-mochi. This treat features rich matcha soft-serve ice cream accompanied by white mochi drizzled with black honey, creating a delicious harmony of flavors.
Shaved ice with a melt-in-your-mouth texture
In addition to warabi-mochi, their shaved ice (kakigori) is also worth trying. They use pure ice and carefully manage the temperature to achieve a melt-in-your-mouth fluffy texture. Flavors include Uji sweet potato, black honey kinako (roasted soybean flour), and strawberry.
They also offer the Whole Melon Shaved Ice, a seasonal item available year-round, which includes a half-ripe melon filled with melon syrup and fruit pulp sauce. Notably, every dessert and shaved ice order at the Ikebukuro Tobu Store includes a serving of premium hojicha.
Japanese tea is also recommended
Their selection of Japanese teas includes Midori, a blend of matcha-infused sencha from four tea-producing regions: Kyoto, Shiga, Fukuoka, and Shizuoka. They also offer gyokuro, hojicha, and genmaicha, all of which pair well with their sweets. Tea leaves are available for purchase at the store.
The interior exudes an elegant and sophisticated atmosphere, providing a calm environment to enjoy their sweets and tea.
