Offering a new form of Japanese tea

Hachiya(Sendagaya, Tokyo)

Located in Sendagaya, Tokyo, the Japanese tea cafe Hachiya reopened in June 2021 in a renovated space just a 2-minute walk from Tokyo Metro’s Kitasando Station on the Fukutoshin Line.

With the concept of reconstructing Japanese culture for the modern age, Hachiya offers a variety of tea-based beverages. These include carefully brewed sencha (green tea) and hojicha (roasted green tea), as well as creative adaptations like “Sparkling Cold Tea,” where carbonated gas is added to cold tea, “Matcha Latte,” and “Hojicha Smoothie.”

Their seasonal special tea blends like Strawberry Sencha Latte are also recommended. This limited-time flavor combines the gentle sweetness of strawberries with the refreshing aroma of sencha, creating a harmonious taste experience for the season.

Hachiya also features an array of authentic sweet treats. Their “Seasonal Fruit Cream Anmitsu” is served with chewy water warabi mochi (bracken starch dumplings) and freshly cut seasonal fruits for a delightful contrast of textures.

Two new products that debuted in March 2022 are the “Rich Egg Castella” and “Matcha Castella.” These offerings feature a smooth and moist texture achieved by using plenty of fresh eggs. They provide a true taste of the richness and flavors of the ingredients.

For those seeking a companion to Japanese tea, they also offer “Handmade Onigiri” (rice balls) that are easy to enjoy. Each morning, they meticulously hand-make rice balls using freshly cooked rice. The “Onigiri Set,” which includes two onigiri and a cup of tea, is recommended.

The cafe’s interior, which includes eat-in space, blends the beauty of Japanese culture with modern elements, creating a comfortable ambiance. They’ve incorporated an original wave pattern into the walls, enhancing the atmosphere with a modern Japanese touch.
