A unique hojicha specialty store

Hoho Hojicha Uji Honten(Uji, Kyoto)

Hoho Hojicha Uji Honten is a unique specialty store in Uji that specializes in hojicha, a roasted green tea. It is located about a 6-minute walk from JR Uji Station.

They offer a variety of hojicha types, including high-quality hojicha made from Uji’s first flush tea leaves that have been roasted. They also have flavored hojicha blends, such as yuzu and white peach, as well as hojicha lattes.

A recommended item is the original hojicha called “Yorokobi no Hojicha,” which won the Platinum Award at the “Japanese Tea AWARD 2021.” This hojicha is supervised by Kyoto’s tea master, Morita Haruhide, and is created by blending carefully selected stems from tencha from around the country.

They also serve hojicha-infused sweets such as parfaits, panna cotta, and soft-serve ice cream. Among them, the “Premium Hojicha Castella,” made using Gyokuro hojicha and crafted by a traditional Kyoto castella cake shop, is particularly popular.

With its soft texture, it complements the hojicha flavor well. The “Premium Hojicha Castella” is available for purchase in-store. Its packaging, inspired by tea boxes, is also attractive and makes it a great choice for gifting.
