Tea time in a Taisho architectural space

Takamiya Teien Saryo(Fukuoka)

Takamiya Teien Saryo is a charming tea house nestled in a lush urban park in Minami Ward, Fukuoka City. It is conveniently located just a 6-minute walk from Takamiya Station on the Nishitetsu Tenjin Omuta Line.

Historic building with tea house

Takamiya Teien Saryo opened its doors in April 2022 after renovating the former Takamiya Kaishima family residence, which is designated as a cultural asset in Fukuoka City. This establishment offers a multifaceted facility comprising a restaurant, tea room, music hall, convention hall, and a beautiful garden, making it a versatile venue for meals, tea ceremonies, weddings, conferences, and other events.

The tea room has both counter seats, where guests can enjoy tea brewed in a traditional kettle, and sofa seats, creating a special ambiance for a delightful tea time.

With its preserved architectural style from the Taisho era, this tea house provides a unique and inviting space to savor a relaxing tea experience.

Offering the finest tea from Kyushu

A signature menu at the tea room is the “Tea and Japanese Sweets Set,” featuring Kyushu-produced Japanese teas such as Sencha, Matcha, and Japanese black tea from regions like Yame in Fukuoka and Chiran in Kagoshima, beautifully paired with traditional Japanese sweets.

For tea enthusiasts, the popular menu offers a Japanese-style afternoon tea, known as Chaen, which includes Japanese tea as well as premium red tea from Germany’s Ronnenfeldt. This delightful set comes with seasonal Japanese sweets, cakes, macarons, and other original desserts.

Dining in a space with a sense of history

The restaurant utilizes the spacious main hall, formerly used as the Kaishima family’s guest room and study. Like the tea room, the restaurant retains its Taisho-era architecture, preserving the traditional craftsmanship and ambiance of the time.

The venue also provides private rooms, creating a serene and calming atmosphere for an enjoyable dining experience.

Additionally, there is a spacious Western-style room available for groups of seven or more guests.

Delicious Kyushu ingredients

The cuisine is based on the rich culinary culture unique to Japan and showcases “Kyushu Satoyama Cuisine,” a creative culinary approach that abundantly utilizes the bountiful ingredients from the seas and mountains of Kyushu.

The lunch course, Hiruge (Lunch), features appetizers that reflect the seasonal offerings of the Satoyama, as well as a main dish of either seasonal fish or Kyushu-raised meat. For dinner, the Yuge (Dinner) is a monthly-changing course that highlights the flavors of Itoshima vegetables, Kagoshima black pork, Miyazaki Jidori chicken, and other local ingredients from Kyushu. Tea pairings and seasonal teas are also available.

Immerse yourself in the high-quality ambiance that embodies the essence of nature and history in each season, and relish the delectable courses that encapsulate the charm of Kyushu’s cuisine at Takamiya Teien Saryo.
