Tea experience to restore calm to your daily life

Tsubomi no Ie(Kamakura, Kanagawa)

Tea and Food Experience in Kamakura

Located in Kamakura’s Yuigahama area, Kamakura Tsubomi no Ie is a cultural space where you can enjoy experiences related to food and culture, including cooking classes, calligraphy workshops, and kintsugi (gold lacquer repair) workshops. Housed in an 80-year-old renovated traditional Japanese house, this charming place offers the experience of “Umi to Ocha no Kurashi(Living by the Sea and Tea).”

Produced by Japanese tea experts

At “Living by the Sea and Tea,” the hostess is Chikako, who has been conducting cooking classes focused on traditional Japanese home-cooked meals for nearly 20 years. She is also a certified nutritionist and a Japanese tea instructor. The experience offers a chance to savor Chikako’s homemade dishes and Japanese tea while immersing yourself in the depth of Japanese food culture and the beauty of handcrafts. During the course, Chikako also teaches the art of brewing tea beautifully.

The tea selection at “Living by the Sea and Tea” is carefully curated by Chikako herself. She visits tea producers, engages in conversations with them, and selects tea that resonates with the producers’ intentions.

Time to experience the charm of Japanese food

The dishes are prepared using abundant seasonal ingredients, allowing you to savor the natural flavors of the ingredients. Through the culinary experience, you can learn about the wonderful aspects of Japan’s traditional food culture.

Chikako has traveled to various regions such as Yamagata and Kumamoto to learn from skilled grandmothers who excel in regional cuisine. Her gained culinary knowledge from these experiences contributes to the creation of the “Living by the Sea and Tea” experience.

The courses include an authentic tea rice dish made with tea leaves. Pouring freshly brewed tea over the tea rice to create ochazuke (tea rice) is a particularly delightful experience.

Surrounded by a gentle atmosphere, “Living by the Sea and Tea” allows you to take a break from your daily routine and find solace for your tired mind and body. It’s a valuable experience where you can reconnect with yourself and experience tranquility.
Since this course operates on a reservation basis, please book in advance through the official reservation page on their website.
